Kallie here - solopreneur and owner here at Buffalo Betty's Boutique. Most who know me know that I absolutely love buffalo - actually, it’s a little more accurate to say I’m obsessed with them. They are such beautiful and powerful creatures. A few years ago, I read an article by Rory Vade, who used how cattle and buffalo deal with storms to share two drastically different examples of how to handle adversity.
As storms build in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and then start to move towards the eastern plains, cattle will turn away from the storm and head in the opposite direction making all efforts to outrun the storm. However, they obviously cannot outrun storms. So instead of a decrease in pain and suffering as they hope, it increases and makes the storm last much longer by traveling with it.
A buffalo's response is quite different. Instead of running away, they will turn toward the storm and run into it head on. The buffalo will still be battered by the initial wave of rain and wind. Naturally, they'll be wet and tired, but in the end they'll have decreased the amount of pain and suffering by moving through the storm instead of with the storm. They choose to face the challenge head on in order reach the other side and move forward in ease more quickly.
So, then, who is Betty you ask?
Betty is my paternal grandmother - Betty Baker. My Granny, as we all called her, taught me how to do a lot of things including sewing, cooking, public speaking and how to ride a horse but, most of all, she taught me that I could do anything I set my mind too. She believed in me more than I could ever believe in myself and was always encouraging me to try new things.
I’ve been through quite a few storms (as we inevitably all endure in this life) and chose this name to continuously remind myself and others to face adversity head on like the buffalo. My Granny was a prime example of living her life this way and I can’t think of a better way to honor her memory than to have her name and legacy at the center of my business.
The mission here at Buffalo Betty's is to provide you all with unique, functional and relevant clothing with an added western flair all while reminding you that you are beautiful from the inside out.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Thank you all for supporting my small business and helping turn my dream into a reality!
